Landers StratAGEy #6 I’ve Found an Incredible New Opportunity to Make a Difference 9/2/2024

NAHC-NHPCO Alliance Inaugural CEO

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

I have enjoyed and appreciated the chance to connect with you this summer via this newsletter about topics in aging and the opportunities and challenges our aging demographics present for families, businesses, and our government. Unbeknownst to me when I launched Landers StratAGEy, an incredible, one-of-a-kind professional opportunity was becoming available. It’s an opportunity that will allow me to serve the companies and people doing the work I believe so deeply in—while making an impact on the quality and availability of care at home for millions who need these essential services. I can think of few more important concerns for our healthcare system and society overall than ensuring a robust, dynamic, and growing care at home industry—this is our nation’s engine for spreading compassion, independence and dignity, and common-sense cost-effectiveness.

I couldn’t be prouder and more excited to share that starting next week I will be serving as the inaugural Chief Executive Officer of the newly created alliance between the National Association for Home Care and Hospice (NAHC) and the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO). More information can be found about this transformational alliance (here). Going forward I will be dedicating my full efforts to this newly created organization and its incredible mission. I will no longer be using this newsletter as a way to communicate, but I will definitely be active writing, on social media, and at conferences and events working with you to advance this cause we all care so deeply about. Please be sure to join, follow, donate to, and engage with NAHC-NHPCO—-we will make a big difference, the future is bright!

At a moment when divisions and disagreements in our politics and broader world seem to dominate the news and conversation, our unifying work advancing care at home is especially refreshing and important. These issues that we’re advocating for through the NAHC-NHPCO Alliance are non-partisan—they’re about love and compassion, independence and dignity, self-determination, keeping families in-tact, showing people how important and valued they are even on their hardest days of life—-these issues are about improving the quality of life in rural America and in our biggest cities, they’re about fairness and justice and faith, about lifting up the most vulnerable and marginalized, supporting and empowering women, combatting hidden suffering and isolation—these issues are about our economy, innovation and growth, rewarding jobs, small businesses and community organizations, and value creation for families and value-creation for our treasured Medicare and Medicaid programs and the taxpayers that fund them. What other industry brings millions of people every day, from incredibly diverse backgrounds, filled with skill and care, with ever improving knowledge and technology into the private homes of our elders and people living with disabilities and serious illness—no matter who they are and whether they live on a farm, suburban home, homeless shelter, or city high rise apartment?? This is incredibly important stuff, I can’t wait to work with you in this new role.

Yours in Service,

Steve
